AshbyDeckhand Colorado I've lived in most states in the Western United States at some point or another and had a brief lapse of sanity in Washington DC recently. I like Oregon the best though, all the Douglas Firs standing thousands of years old in the forest surrounded by ferns and Hot Springs and Volcanic Mountains. My love for this area will surely come into play during the campaigning here in Chile and I can only hope to help preserve what remains of the beautiful forests down here as well. This is my first trip as a paid deckhand and I feel very lucky to have been offered the opportunity. I've been working in the Greenpeace US office as a Campaigner and Actions Assistant for the past two years and think that mixing office and crew experiences offers a refreshing perspective to the work we do. I sailed as a volunteer on the Rainbow Warrior ten months ago during the "No War" campaign. Granted we didn't actually succeed in stopping the war against Iraq, but being a part of the effort was an unbelievably empowering experience. I guess that's why I'm back. Whether I'll be locking myself inside another military tank or simply chipping rust on the ship during this campaign... I'm here to learn and I'm here for the ride. So far, I couldn't ask for anything better... Seriously, I'm in Patagonia!
