Bush Push Flash Bash
by Radagast on 07 June 2001 @ 06:17 PM

Are you a web or Flash designer? Are you looking for a chance to showcase your sense of humour and environmental concern? Then join the Bush Push Flash Bash!

Many people around the world are concerned about the destructive policies of US President George W. Bush. In particular, Bush is refusing to implement the Kyoto Protocol on global warming and threatening to tear up a key nuclear disarmament treaty and proceed with a Star Wars missile defense system.

We've been making fun of Bush's plans with our Star Wars e-card. (Please send it to all your friends if you haven't yet!) We think that there are a lot more opportunities to use Flash or other web multimedia to attack the Bush agenda on climate change and militarism and yet make people smile as well.

Here are the rules of the Bush Push Flash Bash:

  • The pieces must highlight the absurdity of the Bush positions on climate change and/or missile defence.
  • They must appeal to a wide audience (maybe a bit edgy, but nothing obscene).
  • They must use low bandwidth, widely available technologies (in practice this probably means Flash or animated gifs).
  • They should be submitted to Gillo Cutrupi at gcutrupi@ams.greenpeace.org by 6 July. We will not accept executable files, so please don't send any.

You can find lots of information at our climate and Star Wars websites.

If you want to use a Greenpeace logo in your animation (and we encourage you to do so), here is a bitmap version and here is a vector (swf) version.

Once we get the entries, an elite review committee will get together over beer and pick the best ones to showcase on Greenpeace.org. We promise to give you a credit, but exposure on our site will have to be the only reward. We're spending our pennies campaigning against George Bush and his allies these days!

can you post an illustrator .eps version of the logo as well? that imports into flash much better.

As asked before; it would be very nice if you could provide contributors with a vector format (swf, ai, eps, fh9) logo. That indeed would work much better with flash.

Anyone know where you can find suitable graphics of mr Bush. I've worked quite a lot with Flash so drop me a line if you've got an idea but don't know flash..

Here's a flash-file I put together. Still needs some work, but maybe it can amount to something..
What I need is an audio-file of mr Bush saying Kyoto.. Anyone that can help with that?
Any other suggestions are also welcome.
Cheers,
/Nicko

I don't have much experience designing on the web, but I'd love to be able to help in some way.

I can't believe that YOU have the guts to mock OUR own president. You know, maybe he JUST IS looking out for the interest of everyone (which is exactly what he NEEDS to be doing!

I recently came across your WEB page and was very pleased to see you are as outraged at the little Bush as I. What I didn't see was any mention of his mad oil drilling campaign. Not only has he made efforts to drill in reserved land in Alaska, but now has plans for my beatiful state of Florida. This business man, sorry, President, is now not our only problem down here. The Coiller Family which "owns" the minerals under Big Cypres Reserve now wants their share of the pot. This reserve, located near the everglades, is home to many species of fauna and birds natural to Florida including the endangered panther and black bears. Please give your support in saving this natural resource. Sincerely, Marissa Krag
