After One Week
by Radagast on 19 November 2000 @ 09:44 PM

The Cyberactivist Community site has been up for one week now, so it's time for an update. The response has been great - about 500 people had joined by Sunday evening, November 19, and there has been a number of suggestions for improvements.

I've implemented enough changes to move the version number up all the way from beta 0.10 to 0.15. I hope that we will see a continuous stream of improvements (keep those suggestions coming) and that we will be out of beta by March 2001 or so.

Most of the changes so far are to make the system easier to use:

  • Automatic login works properly now. If it isn't working for you yet (and you want it to), click on "Change Preferences" and make sure that you set your Login Option (right at the bottom) to the third choice, so that your computer remembers your account name and password. (Don't do this if you share your computer with anyone else.) You have to press the Submit button to make the magic happen even if you already have this option selected.
  • Replies are easier. You have the option of automatically converting email and web addresses to links, and you are no longer required to code your replies in HTML to preserve your paragraph breaks. The links feature isn't yet implemented for home pages, but will be soon.
  • There are some interesting reports available on the upper left. This includes "today", a list of comments left within the last 24 hours, so you no longer have to hunt through the site to find the new stuff, "visitors", a list of the last 20 visitors to the site with links to their home pages and, uhm, "report" (I guess I lost my inspiration) for a breakdown summary of our current membership (more than 50 countries represented all ready!)

Thanks for all the feedback so far and keep reporting bugs and suggestions for improvement here.
