Hi Steve ! Sorry I did not manage to answer to you before . Regarding your question , the best thing is to call the GP office closer to you , ask for a nb in Ireland and enquire about any volunteer work there . There is always something to do ! Sure you will enjoy it , they are really good people .
I fyou were keen to be volunteer on a ship , contact the marine division in Amsterdam , where you can apply .

Steve, Good on you, I'm also Irish in my 20's and started work locally with environmental group in Ireland 7 years ago, I joined greenpeace in the UK as an active volunteer and I have just come back from a direct action on an Oil Rig in Scotland. we are making a difference!! my advise is never, never give up no matter how big the issue there will always be others willing to join and take action. good luckSaint
