More Trees needed!!
by Brandybuck on 17 October 2002 @ 09:31 PM
I've been looking around at old pictures of how Stockholm looked about 20 years ago, and how the same places look now, and well - there was alot of trees on the first picture, and then the second picture was horrible. There was this great grey building, and an ugly grey factory, and the air was grey. Not nice. And mum's been going on about how little trees there are, and that and that... So as soon as I find somewhere to plant a tree, I'm going to do it! And I thought that it might be smart if more people planted trees, so that it would have some effect on the world... I love trees so for me it's no problem... Well, I hope somebody out there has an idea of the same sort...Please comment!!:)

im no expert but people tell me u should investigate soil toxiciity and the area ur plannin to plant these trees cuz some trees grow better in certain conditions and some trees just flat out die
good luck ive tried this a couple of times but i live in canada and trees are probably more abundant and easier to plant
I just read that there are 5 million trees in New York City. What's wrong with your city? Despite the heat taken by the USA over the environment, forest cover has expanded greatly in the US Northeast in this century. Of course, this is all threatened now by the Chinese loghorn bark beetle, but, so what else is new. Tecumseh
We have some problem too in Bandung Indonesia. When I was a child Bandung and mountains around Bandung were so green, but know trees in Bandung are decresing hour by hour. A little community in Bandung have an ideal how if we eat a fruit that has seed, we can throw it in our yard, and if the tree is big enough we can plant it around Bandung.(Budi Rahim Permana)
I am a horticulturist and I plant trees all the time but loggers and property owners cut them down faster than i could ever plant them. I fight the cities to become a tree city usa to protect the old trees and plant new ones everyone has to get envolved all the way down the line. My grandchildren and my children all fight to protect the earth it is our home to out future teach your children join tree city usa fight to orangize. Tell everyone to plant a tree. I give gift certificates for trees for presents. i donate trees to school and garden clubs. You have to get in the middle of things and piss some people off but a tree is worth it. Try buddleia, it makes flower, little and many seeds it grows every where, and brings butterfly. !What Earth needs is more fixated CO2. Plant a tree is a good idea. Planting a forest is better. Nuts are trees. Cherry is a tree. Peach is a tree. The cycle of carbon. Forest keeps air watered. It makes clouds, like seas, oceans, it fight against desert. Tree is a place to put water, against flood, and CO2, Grace to photosynthesis ! A tree that make fruit, feeds animal, another way of fixing CO2. The roots keep the ground out of seas, coast, river, this way fish can live in a sane water without :i don't know the word in english, it's about water and ground mixed, a poison for fish. A tree that make seeds, it makes other trees. Respect species and geography, buddleia doesn't hurt, it just bloom and perfume. And grows everywhere. It comes from tibet. And is every where in the world now. Place that don't have trees, deserved buddleia, because they bring insects, birds, rabbit, an a place to rest for nature. It grows fast, so it fix Co2 fast. If industry and humanity don't want to stop, we got to find a way to make nature go faster. There is some species that can be a solution. I'm not a specialist, all i've write needs to be verificated. Remember, never act without thinking. God bless you, Earth's Warrior. Go in peace and remember too, the one who show its rage show its madness. Go with the light of moon, stars and sun. Stuff.
The best trees to plant are those native to the area you are planting. Planting trees that have not all come from the same parents or cut from the same tree can help assure that a disease or insect will not sicken or kill all your trees.
Allowing trees to generate naturally can be a very effective method of forest regeneration ; just stop mowing. Vines, grasses and canes are often the first plants to grow in a field that is fallow ( no longer mowed or cultivated ). Be patient and watch, if there are trees nearby soon they might be growing in the field. First they will be small, then they will be 1 meter tall, then three and five meters.
You're right, remember, i'm french, i couldn't say it better than you do. But Buddleia is neutral, it is for years far away from its natural place, and i never heard any bad thing about him. Except, it grows so fast ! It brings so many beautiful butterfly, and birds, and shelter for little savage life. It doesn't make fruits, but it fixs Co2, fast. So it may be one little solution, most of trees grows slowly, except all kind of 'conifères', in french, like sequoia, sorry for my little vocabulary, Anonymous, but i think you'll get what i mean. All solutions must be find quickly, now, it only left 20 percent of the forest Earth used to have two hundred years ago. Those who say we don't need trees, but a technology to clean the mess are stupid, illogical, absurd. Trees do what we need !
