Re: Solution-people must know - proposed action
by AnneNo1 on 28 April 2001 @ 01:00 AM

Hiya

This group is doing fantastic work and I feel it may be time to get together a condensed version of some of the posts.

One of the first suggestions that jumped out at me was of the day of action. Unfortunately, this day was too near for me (and perhaps a lot of people) to get anything happening locally. I, however, loved the idea, and want to propose another day in the future. Might I suggest a few months in advance for serious planning, permits, chain phone call trees, letter writing, organisation of press coverage, etc etc.
Then on the day, a huge homepage display on worldwide Greenpeace sites, and as many other organisations we belong to on the net, with quick action emails to all members, or directing members to a few step site.
Greenpeace.au has a brilliant site for the planning preparation needed to organise a successful march.

Secondly, I love the idea of education. It was mentioned that the general public may not even know what the Koyoto Protocol is and I agree whole heartedly. The press does not yell loudly to the public about the dangers we face - scientific facts! Many, many people think that its just us crazy tree huggin' greenies trying to get into the press again. There are so many un-educated people out there, they simply don't believe that anything is really wrong with our planet and life is fine and dandy just the way it is. They simply do not realise that the future of the planet we live on is ticking away and that our home is dying.
They have not seen the scientific proof for themselves because they are too lazy to look for it. Unless it is loudly stuck in their faces by the media they will not believe it. They really believe what they hear in the media. Unless things start to cost them, their life goes on, happily blissful.
Luckily, there are a band of humans who are not so foolish - And we all know how the media is controlled.
Hence I agree with a mass email of education. I have started work on a Global Warming document that I will post when finished, it is based on facts taken from various websites - with attached scientific references. It is only draft obviously, and would need much feedback and the help of all here to get "Right". email me at lifeslikethatno1@hotmail.com for a copy of it so far, if you wish.
I also agree with Gea, most emails are deleted, particularly by persistant "card sending smoochies". However, if you are not one of those people, then the chances are that if you were to send an education email out, with "quick" actions attached and also a call to your friends hearts for help, the campaign of education via email could be very successful.
Of course, within this email, the day of protest would be mentioned. With cries for help for each of our newly made "educated" friends to do the same. A pulling together of everyone for one day.
Information from this site is brilliant,
- "Shareholders spitting the dummy with BP"
- Why no action on renewable energy?
- Budget custs by Bush on same.
Where can we fill our Hydrogen Cell cars if Petroleum companies do not supply filling stations outlets?
What is the point of developing hydrogen cell cars with no-where to fill them.
Money is the key, we all know that, education of the general public that the technology exists included in the above email, asking for help to place pressure on oil companies and car manufacturers. Placing pressure on the top 100 companies and boycotting their products.
All neatly tied up in one clean an to the point email?

What do you guys recon?
Just a suggestion
Warm regards
Anne

Hiya

To date I have had one request for the document I am compiling on Global Warming. (thanks Axel) I have also not had one reply to my proposed action... I guess (very sadly) that no one here is interested?

Warm regards
Anne
